Frequently Asked Questions

What if we don't know the dance steps?

Don't worry, we have an experienced caller to guide you through the steps. We'll tailor the complexity of the dances to suit the audience but the focus is on fun. What you may lack in experience, you can make up for in enthusiasm.

We feed off your energy and you feed off ours in a fantastic virtuous circle!

How can I learn the dances?

The best way to learn is to come along to our ceilidhs and join in - don't be afraid!

However, inbetween times there are loads of videos online to help you learn the basics and if you are in Perth, look up the St Andrew's Society of WA as they hold dance classes regularly. https://saintandrew.org.au

How much space do I need for a ceilidh?

Ceilidh dances are notoriously space hungry, so you can fling your partner around. There are no hard and fast rules but let us know your venue, dance floor size and number of guests and we can let you know how to make the most of it. We have had some awesome ceilidhs in really small venues.

What is the format of the evening like?

You have us for the evening and we are happy to accommodate your requirements. Typically we find that two slots of one hour length is sufficient for most parties. That allows between 10 and 12 set dances by which time most folk are exhausted!

We can “DJ” a Spotify playlist and take requests for parts of the evening where we aren't playing.

How far do you travel?

We are based in Perth but can travel wherever. Metropolitan Perth travel is included in our standard fee. Anywhere else would be subject to a travel fee and potentially accommodation charges too. We have been booked for events from Albany to Singapore!

How can I contact you?

Feel free to contact us at gallusperth@gmail.com or through the contact page of this website. We aim to respond to your inquiry within 1-3 business days.

Is it possible to hear the band before we make a booking?

Follow the links on our Gallery & Videos page. The videos aren't mainly taken on phones and aren't the best quality, but they give you a sense of the energy. Follow our YouTube page for more recordings, or come along to one of our ticketed ceilidhs for the full Gallus effect! We try to do a few a year.

How much do you cost?

All our events are tailored to your individual requirements. Please get in touch for a personal quote with no obligations.

Is the band going to be too loud?

The band comes with a professional PA system which is capable of filling venues, both small and large. We will adjust the sound levels to meet your requirements.

Do you have Public Liability Insurance? ?

Yes, we are happy to provide venues with the details if required.
